In my final days still using J-Zone as a stage name despite solely being a drummer, I released a slew of sample packs to transition the two careers. Digitally available via The Drum Broker. As someone who came from that background and began playing drums later, I’ve been on both sides of the issue. That said, I’m not chasing down self-releasing and mom and pop label indie artists for using my drums and I’m happy to provide ’em, hence the “royalty free”. The $30 you paid for the pack is all I’d get anyway! But, if you’re making big time bread (six figures, Grammy nods, palatial mansions, long Cadillacs, etc.), just do the right thing and hit me up is all I ask. Artists with 200 streams have put me on publishing when they really didn’t have to (as have some bigger players), so if you’ve found yourself with a smash hit or a third party sync…there’s really no excuse at this point. There’s a fair middle ground if everyone is reasonable, and the line between fair and draconian isn’t as thin as we’d think – nobody seems to get that. So the Hatfields and McCoys nature of this issue rolls on!
